from this book onward, there were no longer any tickets for the hogwarts express. why do you think that is?

I think maybe one ticket was enough for all seven years... sort of like other train tickets that you can use multiple times. Although those train tickets are usually only good for that year... but this is a magical school so maybe that rule doesnt' apply. Or perhaps things are different in the UK.
Perhaps there are train tickets every year, but JKR didn't feel she needed to right about it every single time or she'd risk boring us with minor details.

it would've been easy just to say "harry grabbed his ticket and headed to king's cross station"

i'm not totally sure, but i think someone took his ticket when he first got to 9 3/4. there isn't a mention of any other first years later on getting a ticket punched or anything.

I don't remember him handing in his ticket in SS...but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. but I think he only got it the first year, to tell him where he had to go and when. and then it stays the same every year, so he no longer needs that information.

that's a good point. it could've just been telling him where to go for the first time... but then in the school papers he gets, it reminds him to go to platform 9 3/4 on sept 1st. so it could've just been in the initial package he got from hagrid.

Maybe she didn't mention it because she didn't need to. It's just like how authors don't mention the characters needing to use the bathroom. It's just implied, I guess.
