all the locked threads....I mean really.

Do you moderaters really expect us to look through the boards to find a thread pertaining to the subject we're posting about? Is it really that bad if we let a thread be repeated?

It gets quite annoying when nearly all my threads get locked. Some, I understand, while others aren't necessary to lock.

Closing repeat topics help remove clutter and unnecessary threads. There is no "in between" action to be taken as you suggest. This would often cause unfairness with in the community. We either allow them all (creating incredible amounts of spam, and confusion), or we close repeat topics.

The productivity of this system has worked successfully. If you feel to many of your topics are being closed, try one of the following.
A) Consider spam. Does this thread consist of off-topic posts.
B) Is it in the appropriate section. Often we move topics in the correct sections, however there may be circumstances where we close them.
C) Try the Search feature located below the Potter Forums banner. See if one already exists, this may not work 100% of the time, however decreases the chance of a repeat.
D) Read over our Forum Rules and secondary rules assigned to that section, (if any).

Thanks for the feedback, and suggestions.

The reasons for threads being locked are mainly due to content, whether it be a repeat thread, a spam thread, an inappropriate thread, among other reasons. We always post our reasons for locking the threads. However, if you have any further questions as to why a thread you made or someone else made was locked, feel free to send that mod or admin a private message for further clarification.

Also, if you need help with our Search function, please let me know. Smile

How is it getting old? What would get old is the fact that if the mods didn't lock the threads, we would have thousands upon thousands of repeat threads. Don't you think that it would get old seeing -- just useing this as an example -- ten threads about Ginny? Or fifteen threads about Horicruxes? When there are perfectly good threads, already about that topic, that has good conversation already started. And if you're tired of your threads getting locked, use the search button. It gets real annoying real fast when people are too lazy to use one little function. If you use that button, then you wouldn't have to worry about having your threads locked. And if you're worried that it'll take to much time to search through too many pages, just be exact with your search. In stead of searching for 'Dumbledore' when really, you want a thread on Dumbledore dying, try 'Dumbledore Died'. Or if you are just looking for a thread about the amazing Dumbledore, type in 'Dumbledore' but make it so that the search is only in the Characters and Creatures forum.
Please don't think I'm being pushy, cause I'm not trying to be.

Kimmy

I agree with Kimmy, also a lot of the threads that get locked, are because they are threads asking a question that has already been answered in another thread..

If we didn't lock any threads, this thread would be a complaint about how there are so many repeat threads.

I understand some locked threads, but some are just unnecessary...

I'm a member of many other forums, and I've seen what is is like to have lots of repeat threads. Trust me, you do not want that to happen here. And I don't understand why you don't understand why threads are locked. The moderator locking it almost always leaves an explanation for why they did it. Could you give us some examples of threads you think were unnessacarily locked?

i agree with the threads being locked if a topic has already been covered thoroughly.

I think it's foolish when a thread is locked and diverted to another that hasn't been replied to in months.
